Bewildered
Ashley’s discomfort was evident as she held her hands up and out in the universal gesture of confusion. The customer bent down to talk into her ear and repeat his earlier request. She found it difficult to hear him over the thumping music playing in the cafe. As it became clear to her that they wanted to go into the private office to pay their bill, her instinct to flee kicked in. She was terrified at the thought of being alone with these men.

She Did Not Trust Them
While she frantically looked around for her manager, her mind was racing with anxiety. If these men wanted to pay in private, they must have a problem with the service provided to them. If that was the case, why would they not voice their dissatisfaction to her, here on the main floor? Or was she overreacting? Perhaps there was a good reason for their request. It seemed like whatever they had in store for her, it was not for the other patrons' eyes.
